The small words that make up half of every text. Three levels of the most common words in each language.
A small set of words — the, and, is, said, they — makes up about half of everything children read. Many are hard to sound out, so readers learn to recognise them “by sight”. Each row on these sheets practises one word four ways: read it, trace it, write it from memory, then find it among similar words. The English lists follow the well-known Dolch lists, and the other languages use their own most frequent words: mots-outils in French, palabras frecuentes in Spanish and common words in Arabic.
