Round each number. Pick a level, print, a new sheet every click.
Rounding is the skill behind every good estimate: about how much will this cost, roughly how long will it take, does my answer make sense? It is not a rule to memorise but a question of distance — which ten, hundred or thousand is this number closer to? Children who see it that way rarely forget it.
Best for ages 7–11
Look at the digit to the right of the place you are rounding to. If it is 5 or more, round up; if it is 4 or less, round down. 47 rounds to 50, 43 rounds to 40.
A number ending in 5 is exactly halfway between two tens, so either choice would be fair. Rounding up is simply the convention most countries and schools agree on.
Rounding to the nearest 10 usually comes around 7 or 8, to the nearest 100 around 8 or 9, and to the nearest 1000 around 9 or 10.
