A fluency drill: answer as many facts as you can in 1, 2 or 3 minutes, then try to beat your score.
Knowing basic facts by heart frees the mind for real problem solving: a child who still counts on fingers for 7 + 8 has little attention left for the question itself. A maths minute is a short, regular drill — 60 facts, a timer, and the goal of beating yesterday’s score. Used for a few minutes a day, it builds speed and confidence. The point is progress, not competition: each child compares only with their own last score.
Best for ages 6–10
There is no fixed rule. Start with 3 minutes, then lower the time as your child gets faster.
It can be if children are compared with each other. Compare only with the child’s own previous score and celebrate any progress.
