Handwriting is learned through the hand, not the eye. A child who copies a letter by drawing its outline may produce something that looks right and still be unable to write it fluently — because the stroke order is what becomes automatic, not the shape. These sheets are built for tracing in the correct direction.
Best for ages 3–7
Around 3 or 4 for finger tracing and large shapes, and 5 to 6 for pencil work. Before that, drawing, cutting and threading build the hand strength that writing needs.
Capitals are easier — straight lines and simple curves — so most children start there. But lower case is what reading and writing actually use, so do not stay on capitals long.
It matters if it causes pain or slows writing. A relaxed grip with three fingers is the goal, but forcing a correction mid-task usually backfires. Adjust at the start of a session, then leave it alone.
